How Many Times a Day Should You Post? A Sane Answer

Last updated: Jul 16, 2026.

"Post more" is the laziest advice in marketing. It assumes the bottleneck is volume, when for most solo operators the bottleneck is time, ideas, and staying sane. So let's replace "as much as possible" with a number you can actually hit.

The realistic daily cap, by platform

  • X: 1–4 short posts a day is plenty. It's the one network where higher frequency genuinely helps.
  • LinkedIn: Once a day, max. More than that and reach per post drops fast.
  • Instagram: 1 feed post or Reel a day; a few Stories if you enjoy them.
  • Facebook: Once a day is more than enough.
  • Threads: 1–3 casual posts; it tolerates a looser, chattier pace.

Notice none of these say "five times everywhere." That's a recipe for burnout, not growth.

Frequency is a floor, not a goal

The number that matters isn't your peak — it's the pace you can sustain on a bad week. One good post a day for a year beats ten a day for three weeks and then silence. Pick the cadence you'd keep during your busiest month, and treat that as your baseline.

The best posting frequency is the highest one you won't quit.

How to hit the number without living in the app

The trick isn't discipline, it's batching. Decide a week of posts in one sitting, queue them, and let them go out on their own. You stop context-switching a dozen times a day, and your cadence survives the weeks when work explodes.

That's what a tool like smart scheduling is for — you approve a week at once and it drip-feeds the queue, so "how many times a day" becomes a decision you make once, not a daily scramble.

Set a number you can defend on your worst week. Then protect it.

Put this on autopilot.
